Programme Objective

As professionals, we all face the same problem in dealing with our clients' matter: How much to check?
Recent events have made it clear that professionals face more challenges in the future. Not only does the economic crisis show the weaknesses existing in reporting culture, recent court cases have the courts making it clear that past practices may no longer be enough.

Programme Outline


This programme will highlight the problems of the present system of checks as well as explore the possible changes we need to make to meet the challenges of the future. It will also highlight how sometimes it is not the system that is at fault but more the culture we have grown up with.
 
•          Auditors' Duties & Obligations: An Overview 
•          Case Studies of Breaches
•          Various Types of Liabilities – Criminal, Statutory, Fiduciary, Tortious, Contractual, etc
•          The duty of the auditor – what is deemed to be acting reasonably?
•          Duty of skill and Care; and Duty under the contract - What aspects to Consider?
•          The Standard required by the Law
•          Duty to Report - Who to report and What to report?
•          Law & Ethics: The Issue of Liability
•          Requirements for the particular work for the particular client in that particular industry -
            How much to check and who to check with?

•          Possible ways of avoiding harm – Practical approaches?

Peng Kwee has been practising as a lawyer in Singapore with more than 15 years with experience in civil and criminal work. He is presently a consultant with Aptus Law Corporation.

He is presently lecturing at the Singapore Accountancy Academy. He conducts continuing professional education seminars with Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and the Commercial Affairs Department of the Singapore Police Force. He also conducts seminars and workshops with various institutions and multi-national corporations primarily in the corporate, human resource, engineering and construction fields. In the past, he lectured at the Nanyang Business School of the Nanyang Technological University, Temasek Polytechnic and the Singapore Police Force. He was also a facilitator at Republic Polytechnic.
