E151 : Ethics & Professionalism: Case Studies For Tax Professionals

Programme Objective
This programme seeks to outline and examine selected ethical issues arising from the day-to-day practice of tax professionals involving in their routine tax compliance work and tax advisory work. 

Participants should be able to come up with a list of best practice guidelines relevant to their practice which they can use in dealing with stakeholders such as their clients, their superiors and subordinates, and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore and/or foreign tax authorities.

 

Programme Outline


In this programme, the following topics will be discussed:
 

  • Explain how the Five Fundamental Principles of ISCA’s Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics relates to the routine tax compliance and tax advisory practice of tax professionals
  • Identify certain opportunities for tax professionals to potentially exhibit unethical behaviors in their tax practice
  • Identify and discuss a list of ethical duties of tax professionals to their clients  
  • Identify and discuss a list of ethical duties of tax professionals to their superiors and subordinates within the same organisation
  • Identify and discuss a list of ethical duties of tax professionals to the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) and foreign tax authorities.
  • Discuss the importance for tax professionals to raise their technical competence and be trained on soft-skills such as effective communication

Training Methodology

Group-based learning with Case Studies and examples via a case-study approach drawn from two decades of relevant tax experience of the lead trainer and facilitator.
