Programme Objective

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) has been implemented since 2 July 2014. As at to-date, about 80 companies have been investigated for breaches of PDPA which potentially the highest financial penalty can amount to 1 million Singapore Dollars. And effective from 1 September 2019, great care must be exercised for using and accessing individual identity card. Failure to do so might result the company in danger of breaching the PDPA. 

It is important for the finance department in any business to be aware of the personal data protection compliance and the potential data breaches which can be costly. This course aims to provide participants with better understanding and guidance on building the capabilities in managing the personal data protection compliance.

Dr Robin Chia

Dr Robin Chia is currently a Chartered Accountant in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and United Kingdom and is also an ASEAN Certified Public Accountant. He is currently the Managing Director of a Public Accounting Corporation based in Singapore with international network. He was previously appointed as Adjunct Professor in few Chinese Universities and a Provincial Business Ambassador in the Republic of China. He specializes in tax and GST and possesses vast experience in dealing with the tax authorities over GST issues, rulings, audit and investigations on behalf of his clients. 

He has previously acted as business and IT adviser for many large international companies on the business documentation process and the managing of GST Audit in Malaysia. He was the Executive Director of GST and Business Advisory in Tricor Malaysia. He also pioneered in reforming GST Ready Cloud Accounting System in 2014 which is approved by Royal Customs Malaysia and is currently used in Singapore and Malaysia. Dr Robin Chia is currently the Managing Director of a digital investigation company in Singapore specializes in corporate fraud, due diligence and cyber security within ASEAN.

He is a frequent guest speaker for many professional bodies within South East Asia and has done extensive research on Accounting and Auditing Standards, Goods and Services Tax, Risk Management and Internal Audit, Corporate Fraud and Forensic Accounting. He has been invited to speak with the government and other institutions in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Laos and Vietnam and has conducted numerous external training, seminars and workshops since 1996. He was also the past Chairman and GST Technical Advisor for RCCM GST Network in Malaysia whose members are either professional accountants in public or private sectors. Since 2014, Dr Robin Chia has been advising and provide training to his clients with regards to the process redesign and personal data compliance in Singapore.
