Programme Objective

The aim of this module is to provide participants with an understanding of the principles of taxation and the overall tax system in Singapore. The module teaches participants basic concepts of direct and indirect taxes in the Singapore Tax System including fundamentals which would assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns.

Learning Outcome:

At the end of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the legislative framework of income taxation and Goods and Services Tax.
  2. Learn the basic concepts such as “the preceding year basis”, “statutory income” and “tax residency”.
  3. Identify taxable income and revenue expenses which qualify for deduction, capital expenses which qualify for capital allowances and impact of unutilised items.
  4. Explain the basic principle of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and apply this principle for GST compliance.
