Our Computer Lab is equipped with Microsoft Excel 2016 & 2010. Due to compatibility issue, Excel 2013 will not be provided.
 
You may opt to bring along your laptop if you wish to use Excel 2013.

Programme Objective

The BAR+: Advanced Certificate in Business Analytics and Reporting (BAR) is an extension of BAR. It is designed to provide past BAR participants a platform to enhance your business reporting and data visualisation skills in Excel and refine your financial models in a 2-days intensive course.

It covers other Excel tools and techniques which is essential for financial reporting including data queries to import and link to data, using SQL to automate and enhance reporting, using PivotTables, special chart types and charting techniques to create dynamic tables, charts and reports, and reviewing security issues associated with creating and communicating Excel financial reports.


This course provides a comprehensive coverage, from time-saving to automation tips, bringing you to a higher level of financial analysis and reporting. 
 
Master the advanced BAR techniques in 2 days and learn how you can enhance your proficiency in building sustainable, interactive and impressive reporting models with Excel.

Module 1: The Performance Dashboards & Analysis Perspectives(includes an e-learning module to be completed prior to course commencement)
 

  • Understanding the concepts of data warehouses, data mining, and business intelligence
  • Relational databases and data modelling
  • The business models and financial projections
  • Building a performance management framework

 
Module 2: Quick overview of the BAR conceptual framework for building interactive tables and charts

  • The components, relationship and data structure of interactive reports
  • The design and building of the interactive reports and charts
  • Formula auditing and debugging to bullet-proof the model
  • The relationship between the spreadsheet and the VBA engine

 
Module 3: Importing data & Working with Pivot Tables 
 

  • Importing data from text, web and databases using database import functions, Pivot Tables and SQL
  • Using PivotTables to quickly summarize data and build ad hoc reports
  • Understand features of Charts/PivotCharts that are useful for information analysis and reporting
  • Integrating Slicers to build dynamic tables and charts

 
Module 4: The Application of Excel to Building Key Models & Dashboards
 

  • Visual enhancements to reports incorporating conditional formatting, special chart types with Excel functions and techniques to create more sophisticated and flexible charts and reports.
  • Working with Form Controls to build interactive tables and charts

 
 Module 5: Incorporating Macro Techniques Into Models & Dashboards 
 

  • Adding Form and ActiveX Controls with macros to create robust interactive charts and reports
  • Using macros to automate repetitive formatting tasks, consolidation of data and exporting data to other office documents such as PowerPoint for report presentations.
  • Techniques for protecting business reports and to share data without sharing formulas

 
This course includes an Assessment element. 
 
Participants will be awarded a certificate in Completion and an Advanced Certificate in Business Analytics and Reporting (BAR) once they have passed the assessments which will include a 10 minutes online MCQ test and a class assignment.
For the class assignment the candidate can use the BAR LuxKarz Case Study or individual’s project work.  The candidate can explore where are the areas of improvements that can be made to the current template using the underpinning knowledge and techniques taught in the class.
