Programme Objective

 

Python is a popular and user-friendly programming language. It can serve both as a high-level programming language (in financial institutions) and a general-purpose programming language. Python can be used to power up financial modelling and solve accounting problems more effectively and efficiently.

Participants in this course are highly recommended to review their basic Python skills on an online platform (Gnowbe) on their own prior to the course. During the course, participants extend their Python skills by using more coding methods to handle different case studies related to finance.

 

Pre-requisite: Participants who signed up for this course would have already been using Python and are required to complete a complimentary pre-course module (e-learning) before attending the training.

Programme Outline

By the end of the course, participants are able to:

  • Determine financial metrics such as Net Present Value, Future Value, Inflation adjusted discounting, and Internal Rate of Return of projects with different cash flows
  • Perform case studies designed to utilise their knowledge of Numpy, Series, Pandas and Data Frames and the financial metrics in order to make informed decisions
  • Build Sensitive Forecast Models to aid in financial forecasting
  • Use iteration (For and While loops), if-else statements and Python functions to perform gap analysis of different forecasts in case studies

Pre-requisites

Please take note of the following admission requirements:

  • Trainings will be conducted on Zoom platform, thus video camera and microphone are compulsory
  • Mandatory for video camera to be turned on throughout the course
  • Display your official name (as per NRIC) in Zoom, to facilitate attendance taking

Ong Kia Meng

 

Kia Meng is a training solutionist, and technology evangelist in the data analytics space with more than ten years' experience in financial business partnering; implementing solutions through collaboration with clients and stakeholders. He has proven ability to leverage technology and deliver impactful data-driven outcomes. He founded Databuilder Pte. Ltd. to focus on helping clients to adopt data analytics solutions in their businesses, as well as offering training on data science and business analytics topics.

 

Kia Meng holds the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) from Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) Singapore, and he is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore. He has conducted regional training for corporate clients spanning ASEAN countries and Japan, which included participants from various nationalities.  

 

Kia Meng is passionate about blended learning models and designing digital instructional media for clients and has created e-Learning modules in Chinese for Panasonic China before. He also facilitates workshops on Big Data topics at the NTU Alumni Club where he volunteers.


Jeffrey Ong

Jeffrey Ong is a certified curriculum and assessment designer, as well as a trainer for adult learning. He specialises in the design of data science content in both online and classroom training settings. After teaching in schools, Jeffrey transitioned into the education publication industry where he has crafted and conducted product training for clients and staff. His burgeoning interest in Data Science coincided with the opportunity to join Databuilder PL. Jeffrey’s passion lies in Big Data technology and the visualization of data.

Jeffrey holds a Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) and Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) from the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) Singapore. He is also a certified Data Science Practitioner-Instructor by IBM. Jeffrey graduated with an Honours degree in Real Estate from the National University of Singapore, BSc in Mathematics and Economics (Honours) from University of London (Singapore) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore).
