Programme Objective
 
With advancements in technology, business environment is becoming increasingly dynamic. In addition to such challenges, global business and diversity in the workplace pose challenges to business professionals who are constantly required to communicate myriad of issues in writing. Whether it concerns writing of emails, business reports or proposals, written communications have to effective and efficient to ensure clarity and relevance. Only then can business writing achieve its outcome of ‘transmitting’ the correct information and ensuring complete understanding of the intentions behind messages or reports.

This programme enables participants to gain insights into the use of three important types of business correspondence – emails, letters and reports. It discusses the functions, formats, requirements, and professional writing of business correspondence. Some areas that will be addressed would be, for example, ensuring professionalism in emails and selecting the appropriate format for presenting information in reports or use of syntax and grammar.

  • Writing concisely and clearly
  • Conveying energy and create impact
  • Use of active or passive sentence construction
  • Observing sensitivities in writing
  • Effective use of paragraphing

5. Ensuring clarity and relevance of information
6. Use of appropriate syntax
7. Appropriate of business English and grammar

  • Use of nouns
  • Use of subject and verbs
  • Transitive and intransitive verbs
  • Shift in tenses in writing
  • Compound adjectives
  • Use of pronouns and prepositions

8. Common pitfalls in business writing
 

Pre-requisites

Please take note of the following admission requirements:

  • Trainings will be conducted on Zoom platform, thus video camera and microphone are compulsory
  • Mandatory for video camera to be turned on throughout the course
  • Display your official name (as per NRIC) in Zoom, to facilitate attendance taking
