Programme Objective
Written communication in a professional setting poses a number of challenges for most. Anyone involved in technical work will quickly discover the challenges presented when trying to communicate their ideas, information, proposals and recommendations to others in writing. All too often, the impact of many hours of work can hinge on the ability to explain the results, put across the facts or state the recommendation effectively to others.
This workshop introduces and reinforces the necessary skills required to complete reports in a clear, concise and objective manner. These include:
- Understanding techniques that help translate complex and innovative ideas into clear, logical and technically accurate documents
- Be mindful of how technical and non-technical reports absorb information
Helping the readers of your report(s) take action or make decisions effectively

Module 1: Perfecting writing skills
- The basics: Grammar, Punctuation, Passive voice
- 3Cs – Be clear, Be Concise, Be Convincing
- Sentence and paragraph construction
- Tonality of writing
Module 2: Guidelines to Consider in Report Writing
- Overview of the communication process and its implications
- Primary and secondary audiences
- Information structures
Module 3: The Technical Report Writing Process
- Parts of the report
- Developing a report introduction
- Putting across recommendations and analysis effectively
- Strong conclusions and recommendations for both audiences
- Tips on writing effective executive summaries which provide the reader with a clear overview
- Writing, reviewing and editing
Module 4: Practical Application and Strategies
- General guidelines
- How much information is enough?
Pre-requisites
Please take note of the following admission requirements:
- Trainings will be conducted on Zoom platform, thus video camera and microphone are compulsory
- Mandatory for video camera to be turned on throughout the course
- Display your official name (as per NRIC) in Zoom, to facilitate attendance taking

This workshop will be interactive with a number of group activities and this will help the participants recognize the essential skills involved in technical report writing.
