Introduction

In this digital era, Big Data is increasingly ubiquitous. Accountants face overwhelming challenges in data handling as well as timely reporting. There is a growing need for making faster decisions in response to rapidly evolving market. The emphasis has shifted from reporting to monitoring and providing strategic insights, intelligence, and analysis.

The profession is expected to leverage up the level of digitalization in the company, and produce reports that offer faster, better insights for management decision making. Management also expects clarity in data presented, capturing both financial and operational data.

Often, traditional software is not built to handle Big Data, and resources are not optimized. There is much space in re-designing the traditional financial reporting process. This course aims to identify manual process that can be automated, translate business requirements, build data model and pull data together from disparate system to develop business intelligence reports, and analytics capabilities for the accounting divisions.

It aims to equip participants with techniques and new way of understanding that is at the forefront of managing and analyzing data. No prior knowledge or coding skills is required for this course.

Programme Objective:

This programme focuses on practical knowledge and aims to equip accountants and business users with useful tips and practical guidance that they can apply immediately at work.

We will use Microsoft (MS) Power BI to demonstrate the data preparation and transformation features. Other than connecting and shaping data, simplifying traditional data preparation work, participants will also learn the powerful connectivity of business intelligence tool to produce real time dynamic dashboard. There will be step-by-step guidance in our hands-on sessions for participants so as to facilitate implementation at workplace.

Other than creating popular visualizations including waterfall chart, map and animated chart in a breeze, we will be looking at building data models, understanding data structure and the fundamentals behind the design of the dashboard. We will also explore basic text analysis given the influx of unstructured data.

Participants can look forward to creating and customizing dynamic dashboard with short setup time to answer problem statements and provide insights through visualization.
