Programme Objective

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global macroeconomy have caused a ripple effect across almost every industry, around the world. It has triggered market volatility and global economies have been severely impacted, losses unseen since the 2008 financial crisis.

The global pandemic is setting the stage for unprecedented opportunities for fraud that audit firms, investors, and banks need to be aware of.

The most recent cases by Luckin Coffee, Commerzialbank and Wirecard, where they disclosed a US$2bn hole in its accounts will not be the last cases we’ll see. Now more than before, the role of technology in detecting and preventing fraud is crucial.

In this interactive session with Confirmation, part of Thomson Reuters, Victor Pineiro, Managing Director of APAC will explore:

  • The rise in fraud over the last 20 years.
  • New opportunities for financial statement fraud brought by the pandemic and how frauds are triggering a ripple effect globally impacting the future of the financial services industry.
  • The risks of traditional communication processes and working with legacy systems and processes.
  • Embracing the change and the benefits for financial institutions innovating in technology, in detecting and preventing financial crime, including fraudulent reporting.
