2.05pm | Updates on the Amendments to Accountants Act Presented by Mr Wong Kee Wei, Head of Accounting and Policy Department, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) The Ministry of Finance and ACRA conducted a public consultation on proposed amendments on the draft Accountants (Amendment) Bill 2021 (“AA Bill 2021”) from 14 October to 13 November 2021. The AA Bill includes key amendments to enhance the audit regulatory regime, introduce measures for better compliance with professional requirements and standards by both public accountants and accounting entities, and align Singapore’s regulatory practices with those in jurisdictions that have established independent audit regulation. At this segment, ACRA will provide updates and discuss the feedback on the AA Bill 2021. |

Singapore Accountancy Commission
Germin Ong is Head of the Strategy & Planning department at the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC). SAC is a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance that develops Singapore’s accountancy sector with the vision of developing Singapore into a leading global accountancy hub.
The department focuses on building business capabilities to capture growth opportunities, and developing Singapore into a centre for accountancy thought-leadership. To achieve this, strategies are developed to drive economic and manpower growth. Research and collaborative projects are also undertaken to grow Singapore’s accountancy knowledge.
Mr Ong holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Technological University and a Master of Science (Management) from the University College Dublin. He is also a Chartered Accountant (Singapore).
Mr Wong Kee Wei is the Head of Accounting Policy Department in the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) of Singapore. His department is responsible for developing strategy and policies for the accountancy sector in Singapore and engaging with the various stakeholders to promote quality of audit and financial reporting, both in Singapore and internationally.
Kee Wei supports ACRA’s involvement in the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR), of which ACRA is a member of the IFIAR Board. He also works closely with the professional accountancy bodies and other stakeholders in Singapore on audit regulatory and development initiatives.
Prior to joining ACRA, Kee Wei was an auditor in a Big-4 accounting firm, with experience in the audits of listed and non-listed companies.
