Insights on High-Quality Sustainability (ESG) Disclosure

The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is a reality. Now, professional accountants must accept the challenge of transforming high-quality, globally-applicable standards for reporting on sustainability into high-quality and decision-useful information for investors and other stakeholders. This webinar examines the important role of professional accountants in the sustainable transition — working inside of companies, in public practice, and as assurance providers.  

 

Sharing on ESG Framework and Climate Reporting

With the rising importance of sustainability and mounting pressure to combat climate change, the Singapore Exchange (SGX) has made the move to mandate climate-related disclosures from financial year 2022.

In the second half of this session, the Olam Team will address various ESG areas on:

  • Aspects of ESG – Concept, Metrics, Framework, Reporting
  • SGX Requirements on Climate Reporting for 2022 and beyond
  • Case studies of Olam Agri in driving ESG initiatives and efforts

International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)

Mr. Madon joined IFAC (International Federation of Accountants) in 2019, where he is Director - Sustainability, Policy & Regulatory Affairs.  He is responsible for developing and coordinating IFAC’s sustainability policy and advocacy activities in addition to conducting research, policy development, and engagement with respect to a range of topics and stakeholders, including industry organizations, regulators, public authorities, and institutional investors.  Mr. Madon's areas of expertise include sustainability/ESG, corporate reporting, financial audit quality/reform, sustainability assurance, ethics, investor protection, financial market regulation, and credit markets. 

Most recently, he has focused on the development of a global reporting system (including assurance) for sustainability/ESG information.  Prior to IFAC, Mr. Madon represented the IFRS Foundation in the U.S. for nearly a decade, during which he focused on building institutional investor relationships, fund-raising, and the adoption of IFRS Standards by U.S. publicly traded companies. Prior to his public policy work, Mr. Madon spent twenty-five years in financial services, most recently as a Managing Director at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. He holds a Masters in Public Administration-MC from the Harvard Kennedy School, an MBA in Finance from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BS in Management-Accounting from Purdue University Northwest.

Bikash is currently a President and CFO at Olam Agri after joining the Olam Group in 2006. Prior to taking over as the CFO of Olam Agri, he was the Global Head of Corporate Finance. He played a pivotal role in driving finance transformation, corporate restructuring and carve-outs for the group, private placement through sale of minority stake (35.4%) to SALIC, raising capital through rights issue, strategic planning, group reporting, handling board audit committee and various other strategic initiatives. Bikash is a qualified accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants in India and has completed an advanced management program on “Leading Strategic Growth” from Columbia Business School. Olam Agri is a market-leading differentiated global food and agri-business with over US$23bn in revenue and 41mn MT volume in 2021, EBIT of US$561m with industry-leading EBIT CGAR growth rate of 47% from 2018 to 2021, and the highest returns among its peers on ROE and E/IC.
