Programme Objective

Ethics x Standards updates.

This course provides bite-sized updates on selected Singapore Standards on Auditing (SSAs), Singapore Standards on Quality Management (SSQMs) and changes in the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics (EP 100) relevant to the Audit Professionals.

At the end of the course, the participants will have an overview of:
 
  • Recent updates to SSAs/SSQMs and its impact
  • Recent changes in ethical requirements and be aware of the common ethical dilemmas, conflicts and misconduct, and the practical ways to deal with, avoid and prevent them.

Programme Outline

There are two parts to this course, updates on selected SSAs/SSQMs and changes in EP 100.

Updates on changes in EP 100 include:

  • EP 100 – Updates to definition of three out of the five fundamental principles
  • EP 100 – New section on guidance in increasing awareness of bias in affecting professional judgment

The SSAs/SSQMs updates to be covered in the course include:

  • SSA 315 in relation to the risk assessment of an audit, including new requirement such as the spectrum of risk
  • SSA 220 (Revised), Quality Management for an Audit of Financial Statements.
  • SSQM 1, Quality Management for Firms that Perform Audits or Reviews of Financial Statements, or Other Assurance or Related Services Engagements (previously known as SSQC 1)
  • SSQM 2, Engagement Quality Reviews

Daniel is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore. He holds an Honours degree in Accountancy from the National University of Singapore and was a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). He has more than 13 years of experience in the accounting profession, having worked for one of the Big 4 accounting firms both in Singapore and in the United Kingdom. He has also more than 5 years of senior management experience with multi-national corporations, managing their operations in Singapore and Asia.

Daniel has served as an adjunct Associate Professor in the department of accounting at the National University of Singapore (NUS), teaching the Audit and Assurance and Advanced Audit and Assurance modules. After NUS, he served as an Adjunct Professor in the accounting department of the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), teaching the Audit and Assurance module.

Daniel also provided professional training to members of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), public accounting firms and training providers.

Daniel was formerly a committee member of both the IT Committee and the Examination Committee of ISCA, and was also a committee member of the Disciplinary Sub-Committee of Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).
