The course was previously known as "Efficient Auditing with Excel: Practical Applications and Best Practices". The content has been refreshed to include automation.

Participants are required to bring along their laptops with Excel installed (preferably Office 365—app version, at least Excel 2013).

This practical Excel course, led by an ex-auditor, is specifically designed for auditors who want to enhance their Excel skills and learn how to apply them in their daily work. The course will cover a range of Excel functions and best practices, including the preparation of audit lead schedules and working papers, tailored to the needs of audit professionals. It will also introduce participants to the basics of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and leverage AI to generate VBA code through hands-on practical exercises and case studies relevant to auditing. This approach provides participants with the opportunity to apply their Excel skills to real-world situations.

On the completion of this course, you will be able to:
•    Use Excel to streamline audit tasks, reduce manual efforts, and minimize errors.
•    Use AI to generate VBA code to enhance efficiency and build customised audit solutions.

Design Excel workbooks for repeated use:

  • Explore the design approach
  • Formatting
  • Referencing
  • Good practices–do’s and don’ts
  • Common pitfalls
  • Commonly used formulas / functions
  • Basic VBA (Macros) and use of AI to generate VBA codes


Hands-on Practice Cases:

  • Prepare audit lead sheets and working paper
  • Discounted cash flow computation and sensitivity analysis
  • Confirmation tracker and template
  • Transactions completeness check
  • Transactions analysis and analytical procedures
  • Audit sampling

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid foundation in Excel and will be able to apply it more effectively and efficiently to their daily work. The trainer’s experience as accountant ensures that the course content is relevant, practical, and geared towards the unique needs of auditors.
