Programme Objective

This course is ideal for students and working adults who are preparing themselves for the SCAQ Examinations Module – Business Value, Governance and Risk (BG)

Programme Outline

Upon completion of the Business Value, Governance and Risk (BG) module, candidates will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the basis upon which corporate value is created, maintained sustainably (eg sound investment decisions) and protected (eg by avoidance of excessive concentration of power and lack of scrutiny of management). Candidates will be able to assess how governance arrangements may prevent long-term dysfunctional behaviour. The module addresses risk management as a key factor in governance and strategy. It develops skills from previous studies in asset valuation in the context of wider considerations of capital investment appraisal, including strategic investment decisions, taking into account underlying financial risk management concepts for effective and responsible decision making.
Be prepared to take the SCAQ Exam –  Business Value, Governance and Risk (BG) after this course.

Kelvin Song​​​​

CA (Singapore)

Kelvin has over 15 years of experience in various roles with corporates, investment banking and accounting firms. He has led or been involved in corporate finance and corporate restructuring activities across a wide spectrum of industries in public and private markets. He is currently the Head of Corporate Finance & Development of a privately-owned Asian enterprise where he works closely with key stakeholders in the evaluation, structuring and execution of strategic mergers and acquisitions, divestments as well as financing transactions.

Kelvin is currently a trainer for ISCA CPE courses and teaches the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ) programme. He has also served as course leader and instructor for the Finance program at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

Kelvin holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is also a Chartered Accountant of Singapore (CA Singapore), Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He has been awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) by Institute for Adult Learning (IAL).
