Introduction

Data plays an essential role in almost all areas where computers are used in modern society. When people deposit or withdraw funds, make airline reservations, and enroll to university courses, they will interact with databases to retrieve, record, or update their data. Data fuels information systems to work properly and generate relevant output for data analytics. Organizations now must carefully manage its data as the critical assets. Further, personal data stored in the database require careful attention, secure access, and comply with relevant jurisdictional regulations.

The instructor will introduce the data governance topic that help participants to properly manage their data, starting from data design, collection, access, processing, protection, to data sharing. Multiple case studies are used to help participants fully comprehend on the database management and data protection issues. Participants will use data modelling software (Lucidchart) for designing a database. Participants will also be used jamboard and slido as the tools to spark discussion on data governance and compliance strategy.

The objective of this course is to help participants to understand and implement data governance that includes data design, data access, data collection, data classification, data processing, data privacy and confidentiality, data security, data sharing, and data regulation.
