Programme Objective

Auditors are increasingly looking to leverage on technology including data analytics tools to enhance the quality of their audits and more effectively deal with large volumes of data. This seminar course aims to provide practical examples of data analytics that can be performed in an engagement of financial statements audit. 

Programme Outline

  • Identifying unusual transactions for further investigation:
    • Round sum payments
    • Duplicate payments
    • Transactions that bypass controls
  • Identifying potential cut-off issues
  • Payroll irregularities
  • Performing completeness test on transactions

Case studies and sample data files will be used to illustrate the use of simple Microsoft Excel functions to perform the above data analytics.

NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring along laptop for the session to follow the illustrations and practise the case study hand-on.
