Classroom

Businesses face highly complex & ambiguous problems every single day – how do we increase revenues / profits, cut costs, and grow users? Which new markets do we enter? What new processes do we implement to improve efficiency? … dozens, if not hundreds, more!

These are the business problems that consulting firms get paid millions of dollars to solve. Luckily, the frameworks, skills, and thinking employed by top problem-solvers are highly methodical – anyone can learn them with the right coaching and practice.

The main objective is for participants to understand, internalize, and apply existing frameworks (making bespoke changes where necessary), to ultimately drive outsized impact in their respective businesses.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Apply frameworks such as the CIRCLES, 2x2, top-down pyramid, and AFI in the right context to methodically solve strategic business problems.
  • Evaluate case studies by tweaking the standard frameworks to address specific/bespoke business needs.
  • Utilise advanced frameworks to systematically dissect and resolve business problems such as process optimisation.

Programme Outline

Step 1 – Understanding Business Problems: Complexity, Ambiguity, and Impact
Overview and context; types of business problems, what makes them complex & ambiguous, and the detrimental impact of solving them ‘incorrectly’ (vs. the outsized gains of solving them ‘correctly’). Examples of business problems will include:

  • Market entry (new geographies and/or industries)
  • Process optimisation & cost-cutting
  • Initiative prioritisation
  • User growth

Step 2 – Advanced Problem-Solving Frameworks from Industry Leaders
Deep-dive into the exact frameworks, processes, and skills employed by top problem-solvers (in corporates like Google, McKinsey, Citigroup, and hyper-growth startups) to dissect and work through a problem from beginning to end. Examples include:

  • CIRCLES framework for product strategy
  • 2x2 / weighted table framework for process / market prioritization
  • Top-down framework for market sizing
  • AFI (assessment, feasibility, implementation) framework for market entry

Step 3 – Practical Application Through Case Studies
Immerse in interactive case studies with high learner-to-instructor engagement to ensure every learner has ample practice applying & internalising every concept. We’ll work through & discuss case studies from businesses of all sizes to give learners a diverse & holistic perspective:

  • Mega-enterprises (e.g., Google, Agoda, Grab)
  • Medium-sized (e.g., government agencies, family businesses)
  • Hyper-growth startups (e.g., pre-series A companies)

Training Methodology

An interactive lecture intermixed with exercises and case studies to demonstrate and coach participants on how they can internalise the existing frameworks and know how/when to apply these frameworks to their business opportunities and challenge
