Programme Outline

With the introduction of new financial instruments and concerns, professionals in various fields are now even more in the limelight as compared to their predecessors. Auditors and accountants are no different. With stricter money laundering rules and even more “grey” financial transactions, corporate governance haunts every step, even in the realm of non-profit organisations.

Questions are raised about the roles of auditors and accountants. Often there is a misunderstanding of what must be done (in law) and what should be done (ethically). This course aims to help participants:

  • Appreciate the traditional duties of the auditor and accountant and how these remain relevant.
  • Understand the limitations placed on the ability of auditors and accountants to provide full services to their clients.
  • Stay informed about the recent regulatory developments, including NOCLAR and other new regulations.

TRAINING OUTLINES

  1. How law affects ethics
  2. The professional standards
  3. The duties under the Tort of Negligence
  4. The parties to whom duties are owed, including the Company, shareholders, creditors and the public
  5. Duties to be imposed on employees, especially for confidentiality and fidelity
  6. The use of exemption clauses and disclaimers
  7. Discussion on the ISCA Code of Professionalism Conduct and Ethics and the legal effect of NOCLAR
