This course aims to equip participants with the essential skills to clearly articulate a business’ mission, vision and goals, design scalable models, and map out actionable growth strategies. Through a step-by-step approach and the real-life case study of Love Bonito evolution from an online blog shop into a regional Fashion brand, participants will learn how to transform everyday businesses into enduring enterprises.

 

 

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a clear and compelling business vision and mission and set SMART goals that align both personal and business objectives;
  • Analyse and refine their business model using the Business Model Canvas, with a focus on identifying scalable components such as products, pricing, distribution, and branding; and
  • Evaluate various strategic growth pathways including market expansion, product development, franchising, and partnerships.

  • Myths and common roadblocks to growth
  • Importance of structured business planning at early stages

2. Articulating a SME’s Vision, Mission & Goals

  • How to craft a compelling business vision that guides growth
  • Aligning personal goals with business goals
  • Setting SMART goals to drive progress

3. Building a Scalable Business Model

  • Review and refine your business model using the Business Model Canvas
  • Identifying scalable elements: product, pricing, distribution, brand
  • Understanding customer segments and value proposition

4. Strategic Growth Pathways

  • Market Penetration vs. Market Expansion
  • New product/service development
  • Franchise, partnerships, and distribution strategies

5. Planning for Resources & Execution

  • Estimating people, capital, and system needs for growth
  • Understanding funding options available to Singapore SMEs
  • Building a simple implementation plan (who, what, when, how)

6. Real-Life Case Study: Love Bonito – Growth with Identity

  • How a traditional family-run stall became a regional F&B brand
  • Key decisions: branding, franchising, product focus
  • Maintaining core identity while scaling
  • Lessons SMEs can apply to their own growth journey

Saim has over two decades of experience leading digital transformation in consulting, financial services, and technology spaces as an analyst, consultant and CEO. He is an accomplished founder, CEO, and board director with a proven track record of success in venture building. As the driving force behind Cards Pal, a corporate digital venture backed by Standard Chartered Bank, he scaled the venture from the ground up and successfully led its acquisition by a travel technology company in 2023. He is currently building the second corporate venture with SC Ventures, Standard Chartered Bank.

 

Saim is an affiliate faculty member at SMU Academy. He is also a mentor for the Singapore Leaders Network (SGLN) and Shell Startup Engine and serves as a non-executive director for a nonprofit organization that support children. His leadership and innovative contributions have been recognized with multiple industry awards at the global level, including the Digital CX Awards: Outstanding Transformation in Digital CX during Covid-19 by The Digital Banker.

 

Saim is a member of the Young Business Leader Network under the Singapore Business Federation. Saim is also a guest lecturer at NUS and SMU.
