Programme Objective
 
A practical hands-on seminar intended to allow participants to perform hedges on commonly used financial instruments under IFRS 9. The seminar will also focus on the actual preparation and testing aspect of hedge accounting.

Programme Outline

  • Basic concept of hedge accounting under IFRS 9
  • Rules and guidelines of hedge accounting under IFRS 9 requirements
  • Practical preparation of the hedge documentation
  • Different effectiveness testing methods used for the prospective testing (Sample documentation template will be provided for participants to practise on performing the testing)
  • Practical Challenges faced by corporate who adopted hedge accounting and suggested ways to overcome it
  • Case Study on companies who adopted hedge accounting

Participants are highly encouraged to bring along their laptop for hands-on exercises.

Choon Kiat is currently with OCBC as Head of Group Capital and Financial Reporting Advisory. Prior to this, he was Vice President of Business Technical Accounting and Advisory at Standard Chartered Bank and was in-charge of providing accounting guidance and solution to business units to enable greater efficiency in deal structuring to clients. He was also previously Senior Audit Manager (Global Financial Service Industry – GFSI) with Deloitte and Touche LLP, specializing in Valuation and Accounting Treatment of Financial Instruments. He has conducted numerous IFRS and Valuation trainings in Singapore as well as in the Southeast Asian regions.

His credentials include:

•    Non-practicing member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA)
•    Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter-holder
•    Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) from Institute of Internal Auditors
•    Master in Financial Engineering (NUS)
