Programme

2.00pm to 2.30pm

Part 1: Economic Outlook 2023

Crises come fast and furiously these days, from pandemic to war to great power rivalry to cost of living. Such shocks often have global dimensions and tend to reinforce one another. We expect global growth to slow by over 100bps this year. Inflation would ease, but not enough to allow the US Federal Reserve to cut rates. Real interest rates on USD funding would soar by over 200bps. China is typically a balancing factor during global slowdown; this time its capacity is limited. Markets could rally around cheap valuations and evidence of a shallow slowdown.

Speaker:

Taimur BAIG (Chief Economist, Managing Director - DBS Bank Ltd)

2.30pm to 3.10pm

Part 2: Current Global Economic Drivers for Singapore Stocks

SGX’s Market Strategist will provide an overview of the impact of key global economic themes on the key sectors and segments within the Singapore stock market. This will include mega-trends such as decelerating growth, staunch inflation and higher interest rates, to more structural themes such as the impact of climate change and digitalisation.
