Programme Outline

The workshop will discuss IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements which was issued by the IASB in April 2024. IFRS 18 replaces IAS 1 Presentation of Financial Statements. In this workshop, we will discuss the key principles of IFRS 18 and its impact on the presentation of the Statement of Profit or Loss and its new approach to disclosures of management-defined performance measures. The workshop will also explain the objective, scope and primary approach of IFRS 19 Subsidiaries without Public Accountability: Disclosures which was issued in May 2024.  The session will conclude with an overview of highlights of other key amendments and proposals issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB)in 2024/2025.

  2. A clear understanding of the underlying principles of IFRS 18
  3. A practical evaluation of the impact of IFRS 18 on financial reporting

Dr Pearl Tan, Adjunct Associate Professor in Accounting at Singapore Management University (SMU) has extensive experience in teaching and developing courses on advanced topics in financial accounting. Dr Tan had won a number of teaching awards in SMU and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Dr Tan has an active interest in the IFRS and provides feedback to policy-making bodies.  She has co-authored two books on IFRS that are used by a number of Asian universities. Dr Tan served on the inaugural Learning and Assessment Committee of the Singapore Qualification Programme and was a member of the Advisory Committee for Accounting Standards for Statutory Boards, and the Financial Reporting Committee of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). She was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2015.
