Programme Objective
 
Myanmar is the last sizeable economy and market in Asia that remains untapped. It is a new, emerging economy with a large population and significant natural resources. The country is undergoing political and economic reforms and there is a burst of business interest in Myanmar since 2011. However there are much attendant risks and challenges that comes with entering a frontier economy. This one day workshop will attempt to bridge the knowledge gap for any companies interested to do business in Myanmar. The objectives of this workshop is to help companies to plan their entry strategies and understand the current tax regime in Myanmar.

Paul is a Tax Partner with the International Tax Services team and heads the Myanmar tax practice and the Energy, Mining and Utilities business sector for PwC Singapore across all lines of service. He has significant experience in businesses in South East Asia and Asia Pacific. He has worked extensively on due diligence, planning and implementing corporate restructures, mergers, acquisitions and divestments in the Asia Pacific region and has provided tax advisory and planning services to multi-national corporations in the region. He specialises in local and international tax structuring and his clients include multi-national companies in the energy, mining, utilities, communications, logistics, shipping, technology and industrial products sectors. Paul has also been involved in many discussions with the Myanmar authorities to lobby for certain lobbying initiatives for industry groups in several key sectors in Myanmar including financial services, telecommunication and oil and gas sectors.

Suk Peng is a Director with PwC Myanmar based in Yangon, where she specialises in taxation and investment related regulatory matters in connection with Myanmar's Investment Laws, foreign exchange control rules, and Myanmar Company Law, amongst others. Suk Peng has handled numerous Myanmar tax projects including conducting tax due diligence and providing inbound tax structuring and advice.  Suk Peng has also been involved in many discussions with the Myanmar authorities to lobby for certain lobbying initiatives for industry groups in several key sectors in Myanmar including financial services, telecommunication and oil and gas sectors. She has also helped her clients with the applications for tax incentives, tax treaty benefits/exemptions and he intended tax treatment/positions etc.
