Programme Objective

Never underestimate the cumulative knowledge and experience you have built up over the years: there is no substitute for this. It is the bedrock on which you base the professional judgements that are so highly valued by your clients and other users of audit reports.

Building on individuals’ cumulative knowledge and observing international ethics codes, the aim of the webinar is to help finance professionals in business aspiring to attain greater understanding and continual development of professional skepticism, integrity and professional ethics.

Programme Outline

Ethics pays!
Ethical behaviour is fundamental to an organisation’s risk management. Reputation and trustworthiness are key to long-term performance. Integrity is at the heart of ethical behaviour. In practical terms, what is meant by integrity, both as a concept and in practice? What are the questions to ask to determine the role of integrity in an organisation, and how it is assessed and instilled? The session will draw on the ICAEW thought leadership report Real Integrity and includes case studies.

Walking the ethical tightrope
Individual ethical behaviour is key to personal risk, professional membership, and long-term reputation. In challenging economic times, accountants in both business and practice can come under pressure to do the wrong thing for short-term benefit of others. How do you deal with this so that you behave in an ethical manner? The session will draw on the ICAEW's thought leadership report Reporting with integrity and includes case studies.

The UK Bribery Act and how it affects business professionals outside the UK
How does the Bribery Act affect business and what can business professionals do to make sure that they are not adversely affected by consequences of the act? The session will draw on the ICAEW's briefing paper The UK Bribery Act 2010: implications outside the UK.
