Programme Objective
 
The move from the old economy to the new knowledge based economy places a premium on adding value through knowledge, skill and above all else, creativity. We need think and see problems in new ways and different perspectives realizing that there may be more than merely one “right” answer. This short workshop shows participants how to use creativity to generate ideas and solutions and how such thinking may be fostered and developed in themselves and their staff. At the same time it will help equip participants with the ability to approach challenges and problems with techniques and tools for practical application in real life.

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Provide a fundamental understanding of how analytical thinking works
  • Understand the systematic process of problem solving
  • Review and revise the classic models of problem solving
  • Recognise creative principles and techniques and how to apply them
  • Use various creative thinking techniques to assist in a more creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Be equipped with a framework and set of tools and techniques for idea generation and evaluation
  • Apply creative thinking techniques to produce new and different solutions

1] NTUC Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP)
UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme) is an individual skills upgrading account for NTUC members. NTUC member gets to enjoy UTAP funding 50% of the unfunded course fee capped at $250 every year. This excludes miscellaneous fees such as GST and registration fee etc.
 
This course is approved for UTAP support for intakes conducted between 12 June 2019 – 31 March 2020.
 
As UTAP is given on calendar year basis, and calculated based on year of training taken, it cannot be accumulated.

  • Maintained paid-up NTUC membership before course, throughout course duration and at the point of claim and;
  • Course by training provider must be supported under UTAP and training must commence within the supported period and;
  • Unfunded course fee must not be fully sponsored by company or other types of funding
  • Unfunded course fee must be S$20.00 and above, and;
  • Member must achieve a minimum of 75% attendance for each application and sat for all prescribed examination(s), if any and;
  • UTAP application must be made within 6 months after course ends.

John has more than 26 years of working experience in senior management and in sales and marketing of technical products and services. He has worked for an MNC, various SMEs and was a partner in a precision engineering company. 

The major achievements in John’s career that are evidences of his ability to make effective decisions and solve work place problems so as to accomplish organizational excellence are:

In his first job as a Department Manager in Diethelm Singapore, John established the Marine Department from scratch to make it the fastest growing profit center by achieving a sales of $2.5 million in the second year. 

As the General Manager of Materials Handling Engineering, he was instrumental in the company becoming public listed in 1989. Other achievements in this company included:

  • Developing the first locally designed and manufactured Automated Guided Vehicle in Singapore;
  • Setting up a new Standard Products Division that contributed more than 30% to the group turnover.
  • As a Director of Apex Precision Engineering, John became the ISO Management Representative and brought the company to ISO 9001 certification in 1996.

As a consultant and trainer, the most difficult problems faced were the mindset change needed to convert family-owned SMEs to achieve ISO certifications. 

John is a Certified Professional Behavioural Analyst (CPBA), and a member of the Marketing Institute of Singapore (MMIS). In addition, he also holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the National University of Singapore, and a Certified Professional Trainer from the International Professional Association, UK.

John is also a performing magician and is presently the President of the Singapore Branch of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He frequently uses magic in his lectures and presentations not only to enliven the audience, but to bring out important principles in a fun way.
