Programme Objective

By the end of this 1-day practical seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. understand the different expectations and views of different generations
  2. understand and appreciate how different times have shaped different perceptions
  3. understand different communication styles across generations
  4. identify ways of bridging the different generational divides
  5. foster greater inter-generational integration and communication
  6. identify ways of building inter-generational bonding
  7. minimize and reduce misunderstandings and conflicts at work
  8. nurture better work place relationships across genders
  9. apply a framework for better intergenerational communication

  • The different Generations at work – Veteran, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y
  • Gen X and Gen Y compared – views, perspectives and expectations
  • Characteristics, traits and values of each generation
  • Common causes of misunderstanding among the generations
  • What turns each generation on and off?
  • What each generation values?
  • What is the current divide between generations?
  • How to integrate all generations at work?
  • What is the psychology of motivation that drives each generation?
  • Framework for improving communications across genders
  • How to talk with Gen X and Gen Y staff effectively
  • How not to Talk to Gen Y and X
  • Coaching styles that work
  • Giving and receiving feedback correctly
  • Foster and nurture open healthy communications at work between generations

Training Methodology
A practical approach will be taken with 70% of the course on application and practical sessions with 30% on techniques and concepts. Training comprises a combination of:
  • visually stimulating sessions
  • group activities and “break up” discussions
  • real-life cross generational application work
  • practical worksheets
  • in-depth self-discovery quizzes on cross generational expectations and issues
  • useful checklists and systematic guidelines
  • application activities to ensure transfer of learning to the workplace.
