Programme Objective

 

Professional accountants in business are often involved in the preparation of financial related information used by numerous stakeholders. The evolution of FRS has led to more items within the financial statements being measured using current cost measurement e.g. fair value and value in use. As such, some of the following questions may arise:

 

  • When is fair value and value in use required?
  • What are the key valuation inputs required? How do we assess its reasonableness?
  • Which fundamental principles may be threatened?
  • How can we practically eliminate or reduce such threats?

Woon Pheng has been in the accounting and finance profession since 2001 and he is currently Director of the Financial Advisory Services department at PKF-CAP LLP, a member firm of PKF International Limited. He was previously with Kudos CAS and RSM, both international public accounting firms.

 

He is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore (CA Singapore), Fellow Member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), International Certified Valuation Specialist (ICVS), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Accredited Tax Practitioner (ATP Income Tax).

 

Currently, he specialises in business valuation, valuation for FRS (including purchase price allocation, impairment review and valuation of intangible assets and financial instruments), financial and tax due diligence, divestment of business, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), fraud investigation, assessment of damages, expert witness and liquidation.

 

As an adjunct faculty of Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS, f.k.a. UniSIM), University of Portsmouth, Murdoch University and Kaplan, Woon Pheng teaches business valuation, financial reporting and corporate finance related subjects for the Masters, CFA, Degree and Diploma programmes. In 2015, he was conferred the Teaching Merit Award by SUSS. He is also involved in various roles in the Singapore CA Qualification and with Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC).

 

Woon Pheng serves as Treasurer of Kampong Ubi Community Centre Management Committee.
