Programme Outline

In the course of their audit work, auditors may encounter a myriad of legal issues across several jurisdictions around the region. At this 2-hour talk, you will hear from lawyers from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines from Drew Network Asia as they discuss and provide their insights on the following legal issues from a regional perspective: 

  1. Common audit/accounting issues that have led to legal disputes;
  2. Legal consequences of audit/accounting errors;
  3. Potential legal issues arising from cross border audits; and
  4. Significant litigation cases or case studies involving audit/accounting errors/adjustments from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Additionally, our speakers will also discuss the duty of care owed by an audit firm and how to identify, handle and resolve the practical legal issues encountered in the different jurisdictions represented on the panel.

Cherine Fok

Director, Sustainability Services, KPMG Impact

Cherine Fok is the practice lead for Sustainability Services in Singapore and drives the local efforts for KPMG IMPACT, KPMG’s global initiative on ESG expertise building for a more sustainable and resilient future. She has more than 15 years of experience in a wide range of consultancy projects, specialising in ESG strategies and frameworks, social and economic development, sustainable finance, climate change and ESG measurement, reporting and assurance. By championing cross-functional collaboration and expertise, she helps corporate and public sector clients to address complex ESG and decarbonisation topics.

 

Cherine has led numerous sustainability advisory engagements across diverse industries. These engagements cover end-to-end client delivery from green economy strategies, decarbonisation roadmaps, climate risk disclosures to impact measurement, sustainable finance framework development and ESG due diligence. For example, she has assisted a leading global real estate company in issuing Singapore’s first green bond.

 

Currently, Cherine is a Council Member of the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore, a Member  of the EuroCham Sustainability Committee, and a Member of the British Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainability Committee. She is part of Green Finance Working Group of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She is also a non-practising member and Corporate Reporting Committee Member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA).

 

Cherine takes a special interest in market building efforts related to sustainable development and is a regular contributor to industry thought forums and media content. Her contributions include speaking engagements and insight publications with the G7 Global Summit, the UK-ASEAN Business Council, the US-ASEAN Business Council, the Singapore Exchange, the Monetary Association of Singapore, Singapore Green Building Council, the REIT Association of Singapore, the Singapore Institute of Directors, the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, the Singapore Environment Council, the CPA Australia (Public Sector ESG Roundtable), the Asia Financial Forum, the European Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Straits Times, the Business Times, LianHe ZaoBao and Channel News Asia, amongst others.

Pamela Fan

Partner, Audit, KPMG in Singapore

Pamela has led the audit engagements of international groups, reporting under Singapore IFRS, Singapore FRS, IFRS and US GAAP. She has also led the audit of various public listed companies and assisted clients in their corporate restructuring and capital market activities, such as bond issuance, IPO and assistance on insurance linked securities. In addition to the audits, she is also the ESG assurance leader in KPMG Singapore, leading assurance engagements on sustainability reporting.

Pamela has experience in insurance due diligence and internal audits. She has also achieved the US GAAP and PCAOB accreditation.

Pamela has been involved in an overseas secondment for over 2 years with KPMG in US’ Washington DC office where she worked on US GAAP and PCAOB audits of both Singapore and US companies in the USA. She has also been involved in a secondment to ACRA in 2017/2018 to support ACRA in its Financial Reporting Surveillance Programme(“FRSP”) in reviewing selected financial statements for compliance with the prescribed Accounting Standards in Singapore and the production of FRSP reports to improve compliance.
