In the course of their audit work, auditors may encounter a myriad of legal issues across several jurisdictions around the region. At this 2-hour talk, you will hear from lawyers from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines from Drew Network Asia as they discuss and provide their insights on the following legal issues from a regional perspective:

  1. Common audit/accounting issues that have led to legal disputes;
  2. Legal consequences of audit/accounting errors;
  3. Potential legal issues arising from cross border audits; and
  4. Significant litigation cases or case studies involving audit/accounting errors/adjustments from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Additionally, our speakers will also discuss the duty of care owed by an audit firm and how to identify, handle and resolve the practical legal issues encountered in the different jurisdictions represented on the panel.

Blossom focuses on disputes as well as restructuring and insolvency work. She is actively involved in court (appearing before the Singapore High Court and Court of Appeal) and arbitration work (SIAC, LCIA, HKIAC, AIAC and IICRA), handling derivative actions, contentious commercial, shareholder, employment, and other disputes. Blossom was named Litigator of the Year in Southeast Asia in the 2021 Asian Legal Business (ALB) Women in Law Awards, and she was also identified as one of Asia’s top 50 most highly recommended arbitration and litigation practitioners in ALB’s Asia Super 50 Disputes Lawyers in the same year. Earlier in 2020, she had won the Woman Lawyer of the Year (Law Firm) in the 2020 ALB SE Asia Law Awards.

 

MS RAHAYU NINGSIH HOED

Partner, Makarim & Taira S (Indonesia)

Rahayu has been with Makarim & Taira S for more than 30 years rendering her the most senior partner at the firm. She has extensive experience in almost every aspect of legal practice due to her background as journalist and paralegal and is a widely recognized authority on corporate and M&A transactions, arbitration, employment, and project financing. Her expertise is recognized in several legal directories. Rahayu has represented many major multinationals companies. Her achievements include project financing for the 1,320MW large capacity Tanjung Jati B power plant and its expansions, major land acquisitions for infrastructure and mining projects, and highly sensitive mass terminations of employees.

 

MR RABINDRA S. NATHAN

Partner, Shearn Delamore & Co. (Malaysia)

Rabindra has an extensive dispute resolution practice in the West Malaysian courts and ad hoc admissions as counsel in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak in specialised cases in arbitration and energy and power. He has numerous reported cases to his name and regularly acts in domestic and international commercial arbitrations under the ICC, AIAC, SIAC and UNITRAL Rules. He has given expert testimony on Malaysian law in the High Court in Singapore and in international arbitrations. Rabindra is a member of the ICC Panel of Arbitrators, Malaysia.

 

MS MARY ELIZABETH M. BELMONTE

Partner, Head, Tax, Martinez Vergara & Gonzalez Sociedad (Philippines)

Marybee heads MVGS’s Tax practice group. She specializes in tax and corporate law matters. She has assisted and represented multinational and high-profile companies across various industries in their tax assessment cases and tax refund claims before the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Court of Tax Appeals. Marybee is a certified Chartered Trust and Estate Planner and assists in various estate and tax planning of high net-worth individuals and families as clients of the Firm. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and has previously worked with SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co., an affiliate of Ernst & Young Global.
