Programme Objective
The course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the valuation methodologies and best practices for venture capital (VC) portfolio companies and preference shares under FRS 109, AICPA PE/VC Accounting and Valuation Guide, and International Private Equity and Venture Capital (IPEV) Valuation Guidelines. 

Participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform and review valuations in compliance with relevant standards and industry best practices.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Determine the appropriate valuation techniques based on the company's lifecycle stage, recent fundraising transactions, exit proximity, financial health, data availability, and market conditions;
  • Apply valuation methodologies specific to venture capital portfolio companies, including the Current Value Method (CVM), Option Pricing Method (OPM), OPM backsolve and Probability-Weighted Expected Return Method (PWERM);
  • Analyse complex capital structures and allocate value to different classes of shares based on their various rights and features; and
  • Implement calibration techniques in accordance with IPEV guidelines and AICPA Accounting and Valuation Guide.

Bilal Noorgat brings over 13 years of experience in valuation and business modeling from prestigious international public accounting firms, including PwC, Mazars, and Deloitte. At these firms, he not only applied his expertise but also pioneered educational programs by developing and leading valuation training initiatives.
 
His career is distinguished by a deep proficiency in valuation for mergers and acquisitions, startup fundraising, and the valuation of diverse assets for tax and financial reporting across various industries.
 
In addition to his role as a valuation partner at FVA Advisory, Bilal shares his knowledge as an adjunct professor of finance at HULT International Business School and IE Business School.
 
He is a fellow member of the Chartered Valuer and Appraiser, a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, a CFA charterholder, and holds certification in advanced financial modeling.
